After enjoying a jaunt working on a hospital med/surg unit, I decided to complete my education to qualify me to do what I really wanted to do–educate!
Freshly out of school, I was hired to design and implement a remediation program at Adelphian Jr. Academy, followed by teaching a 4/5 combo classroom at Ruth Murdoch Elementary, in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Ithaca SDA School opened my eyes to the delights of small school facilities, where I got a crash course in teaching grades 5-8 in the morning and 1-4 in the afternoon! Upon moving to beautiful Walla Walla, Washington, God led me into teaching many subject areas at the secondary level at Walla Walla Valley Academy for 23 years!
Being an educator means my own education never ends, and I love that I can share that experience with young people of all ages. Overcoming challenges, broadening our understanding, and walking life’s journey alongside each other is a great way to spend each work day. Coming alongside young people to identify, develop and utilize their God-given talents and skills, deepening the quality of their relationships with each other and most importantly, with the One who fearfully and wonderfully made them is something I find richly rewarding.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to teach first grade this year!
When I am not teaching, I can be found enjoying time with friends and family (husband Troy, sons Morgan and Cameron and daughter-in-law Alexa), or with my nose in a good book while swaying in a hammock with my two Goldendoodle pups nearby.
