I was always a person who was good with children. I didn’t always appreciate it growing up, but found myself drawn to being a consular at a science camp for Jr. High while I was a High School student. Later, I worked for two summers at a summer camp teaching rock climbing.
I started college following a different dream, but God seemed to be directing me back to work with children. I graduated from Walla Walla College in the summer of 1997 as a teacher. That summer I married by wife Marita, who is also a teacher, and we chose to start our teaching adventure in the great land of Thailand.
Our first two years of teaching were quite the experience in Thailand, and might well have been longer had not the doctor told us that we were expecting our first child Anna.
The next decade or so saw us add a son to the family, Ben, and worked in different Adventist schools throughout California. During that time I had the opportunity to be a principal for six years. We felt the need to bring our family closer to grandparents here in the Northwest.
In the summer of 2007 we got the opportunity to join the CCA staff. It was great to become part of this community. The years have flown past. Now there are teenagers in the house and 1st drivers license around the corner.
I am grateful for the path that God had traveled with me. My time as a teacher is rich with learning experiences that has made me who I am. One thing I can say for teaching, it is rarely predictable and without change. I find my view of the future just as exciting and optimistic as it was in 1997 when it all started.
